Certification GuideThis fact sheet looks at participatory mapping. Participatory mapping is a process involving local and indigenous populations in the creation of maps to represent their land and resource use. The objectives of this practice are to preserve local uses, to inform local people about forest exploitation, their rights and possible compensation, and to identify existing or emerging conflicts between communities and the concessionaire. Implementation involves identifying riparian communities, planning the production of participatory maps and presenting preventive measures.
